Glass Fold No Problem for TSI Unitized Erection Team

Square 673 NoMa Corridor Washington DC NE

Square 673 is a Unitized Curtain wall project North of Massachusetts Ave in North East Washington DC. This 12 story office building was designed by Gensler for Tishman Speyer.

The exterior skin is compromised of a custom unitized curtain wall system that includes a unique feature, a “fold” in the glass on the north façade.

Many thought this was going to be a problematic area during erection due to the complexity of the design. However, thanks to the planning from the Benson Engineering team and skill of the TSI Field personnel the erection continued unimpeded.

As the unitized wall nears completion, TSI erection crews shift their efforts to the stick built curtain walls at the main entrance.

This is one of the many projects TSI has worked with Benson on over the years. The combination of Benson’s engineering excellence and TSI’s field expertise makes for a strong team that can tackle the toughest of projects. It is because of this great working relationship that we can report this project is on schedule.

TSI Erection Team Continues to Impress With Speed of Unitized Installation

Towers Crescent 3030 Towers Crescent Dr Vienna, VA

Towers Crescent is a Unitized Curtain wall system, punched opening curtain wall and stick-built curtain wall job near Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. The project has been developed by Quadrangle Development Corporation, the General Contractor is Hensel Phelps and the architect is Smith Group out of Washington DC. The supplier of the 3 types of curtain wall is Gardner Metal Systems (GMS) in Ackworth, GA. TSI and GMS have been working together for 15 years.

The unitized wall on the crescent (a half circle) is complete. TSI is currently working on the stick built curtain walls on the 1st and 2nd floors and the Curtain walls in the brick openings. We are currently ahead of schedule on this project and expect to be done by January, 2009.

Layout has been the biggest challenge on the Towers Crescent because of the curved portion of the job. We dedicate experience personnel and top of the line lasers to accomplish an accurate layout. We installed 10 floors of the unitized curtain wall in just under 10 weeks.

Towers Crescent is one of many jobs TSI and GMS have done together. Mercy Hospital will be our next job together. GMS is a dependable, capable Curtain wall designer and has been an excellent partner for us at TSI.

TSI Erection Team Continues to Push Precast

Victory Center 5001 Eisenhower Ave, Alexandria, VA

Victory Center is a Blast Window and Curtain wall job for TSI in Alexandria, Virginia. The project is being developed by Jones Lang Lasalle Development, the General Contractor is Jones Lang Lasalle Construction and the architect is Hickock Cole Architects out of Washington DC. The supplier of the punched windows and curtain wall is McMullen Inc. out of Wilson NC. McMullen has a great deal of blast experience and has been a good partner on this project.

The punched windows are installed on the building and the Curtain wall is 30% installed. Victory Center is a re-clad and the challenge has been dealing with the existing building. We have spent a great deal of time on layout and coordination with the Precast company, Arban and Carosi and also with Jones Lang Lasalle on the field coordination.

The project is currently on schedule and we expect to have the entire project glazed by December 1, 2008 and the Curtain wall trim completed by January 1, 2009. The TSI field staff has managed layout, quality control and installation to keep the job on schedule.

Victory is our 2nd blast job with McMullen and we look forward to working with them again. Larson, Inc. from St. Louis, MO. Is McMullen’s engineering firm and they have worked with Weidlinger Associates to make sure the Blast levels on Victory Center are met.
